Inferior Vena Cava Filters: Aligning Practice With Evidence to Improve Patient Outcomes

چکیده

Despite indications for the removal of temporary inferior vena cava (IVC) filters, many filters are unintentionally left in place, predisposing patients to adverse outcomes. This quality improvement study set out determine impact an IVC filter retrieval protocol on rates and lost follow-up who had undergone placement a filter. Following quasi-experimental design, data all consecutive underwent insertion period 24-month preprotocol 12-month postprotocol were compared. Filter eligible increased from 64.2% 100%; decreased 35.9% 0% (p < .01, both outcomes). Adoption comprehensive by service that implants these devices can improve decrease being follow-up.

Inferior vena cava filters.

Venous thromboembolism is common. Most pulmonary emboli arise as thromboses in the deep veins of the lower extremities and may result in serious complications. Inferior vena cava filters (IVCF) are intended to prevent the passage of deep vein thrombosis to the pulmonary arteries. Accepted indications for IVCF placement include the presence of acute venous thromboembolism with inability to admin...

INFERIOR VENA CAVA THROMBOSIS IN A PATIENT WITH ESSENTIAL THROMBOCYTHEMIA

Essential thrombocythemia is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by a sustained proliferation of megakaryocytes, which leads to increased numbers of circulating platelets. Hemorrhagic and/or thrombotic episodes are frequent, and thrombosis of both veins and arteries may develop. Vessels in unusual sites may be involved, e.g., the hepatic veins, mesenteric veins, and the dig...

Using inferior vena cava filters to prevent pulmonary embolism.

OBJECTIVE To review the evidence for using inferior vena cava (IVC) filters to prevent pulmonary embolism (PE) in high-risk patients. QUALITY OF EVIDENCE Ovid MEDLINE was searched from 1966 to 2006 for all English-language papers on IVC filters. Evidence was graded according to the 3-level classification system. Most evidence found was level II. MAIN MESSAGE Inferior vena cava filters are u...
